Whiplash and What You Need to Know

By Jack H. FarnbauchNovember 27, 2016

A very common injury with car accidents is whiplash. But how much do you really know about whiplash? Whiplash is a neck injury due to a forceful back-and-forth movement. It is also referred to as a neck strain or a neck sprain. Whiplash is a soft-tissue injury that can result in chronic pain and reduction in movement. Many whiplash cases result from a rear-end car collision but this not the only way whiplash manifests itself. Slip and fall accidents, contact sports and other sudden episodes of jerking or snapping of the neck can cause whiplash.

Many people think that you must be going a high rate of speed for whiplash to occur. This is not the case. Whiplash can and does occur in low-impact car crashes. It does not take that much force to cause a serious neck injury. If you feel that you may be a victim of whiplash it is very important that you are seen by a doctor as soon as possible. Some symptoms include dizziness, blurred vision, inability to sleep, numbness in your arms or hands, or stiffness.
