2012 Annual Terminix City Ranking of Bed Bug Infestations

Since 2010 Terminix, a large company providing pest control services, has released an annual report of cities it deems to be the most infested with bed bugs. The report is based on the amount of service calls the company receives and the number of confirmed cases made by the pest control service providers. Indianapolis, Indiana was number 13 on the list for 2012. Indianapolis did not appear on the list in 2011 and was ranked number twelve in 2010.

The following are  the top fifteen cities Terminix listed for bed bug problems:

  1. Philadelphia
  2. Cincinnati
  3. New York City
  4. Chicago
  5. Detroit
  6. Washington DC
  7. Columbus
  8. San Francisco
  9. Denver
  10. New Haven
  11. Dallas
  12. Houston
  13. Indianapolis
  14. Miami
  15. Cleveland

Ohio has three cities on the heavy infestation list. As vacation travel season is upon the nation, people need to be careful on public transportation, in airports, and at hotels. These locales can be places that bed bugs are picked up and brought back to one’s home. While bed bugs have been believed not to be dangerous or the causes of any serious infection, they are still to blame for painful, itchy, irritating bites. Hospitals and nursing facilities are places of concern where it is most important to protect from infestation. That being said, some of these facilities do have bed bugs in residence. Recent studies are showing that bed bugs can carry bacteria such as MRSA and VRE, but it still unclear if the bugs can transmit these antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains to humans.

If you or a loved one contracted a health care acquired infection (shows up 48 hours after health care stay that was not noted as part of initial diagnosis) such as staph, MRSA, or VRE  from contaminated medical equipment, surroundings or personnel, that caused serious health complications or death, you could be eligible for damages. Please contact Sweeney Law Firm and let our medical experts review the facts to determine if you have a medical malpractice case.
