Indiana Joins 17 Other States In Lawsuit Against Obama’s Immigration Policy

March 7, 2015

The State of Indiana is joining 17 other states in a lawsuit challenging President Barack Obama’s executive order on immigration. In a letter sent to Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller, Gov. Mike Pence called to “restore the law,” stating the president’s unilateral action was unacceptable.

In late November, President Obama moved to shield five million undocumented immigrants and prioritize the deportation of “felons, not families.” But the executive order has been met with outspoken opponents, as Republicans claim the president is overstepping his power by not seeking input by Congress.

President Obama rejected accusations by conservatives that he is offering a free pass to undocumented immigrants and argued in a prime-time address that “the real amnesty” would be leaving a broken system as it is now. Gov. Pence wants Obama to rescind his order immediately and allow States to be heard on the issue in Congress.
