Disturbing Video Shows Veteran Die in Front of Laughing Nurses

By Jack H. FarnbauchJanuary 3, 2018

A Georgia nursing home is in hot water for their treatment of an 89 year World War veteran. James Dempsey’s family has settled with Northwest Atlanta Health as a result of their medical malpractice and the family is restricted from giving any interviews about the death of James but the video has leaked anyway. The video can be seen here

The video clip is from February 27, 2014 and is shocking, to say the least. At 4:34 a.m. on the last day of his life, Dempsey threw one skinny leg over the edge of his hospital bed. He pressed a button to call a nurse and croaked three times to an empty room: “Help me, help me, help me.” Dempsey called for help 6 times and then fell unconscious. Dempsey was found unresponsive at 5:28 a.m. but 911 was not called until 6:25 a.m.

The Dempsey family had a video camera placed in James’ room without the nursing home being alerted. The nursing supervisor was asked to answer questions under oath about the incident without knowing of the video recording. She lied about giving Dempsey CPR and is shown on the video giving Dempsey no care at all. When the nurses had difficulty getting Dempsey’s oxygen machine to work, they are seen laughing.
